Troubleshooting: Published page not updated in the frontend

If you are using Emojis on your page or project, it can happen that your published page will not get updated in the front end. Without getting into too much detail: This is due to an encoding problem with your database. WordPress uses the encoding 'utf8mb4' since version 4.2 which supports emojis (4 byte collation).

Sometimes the update of the database is not successful so the page still runs with the 'utf-8' encoding which does not support emojis (3 byte collation).

To continue using emojis please make sure to do the following:

1. Click on the source icon of the WYSIWYG editor


2. Now just delete the emoji from the alt tag.


3. It should look like this now:


4. Hit save to save your changes.

!Important: If you changed your paragraph in one of the mobile breakpoints, you also have to change the alt tag there.


After that your page should just publish fine.
