When adding videos to your site, you have two options: Upload the video straight into Semplice and use your own hosting service for the video (ie. self-hosted video) or embed a video from a video streaming service such as YouTube or Vimeo using the oEmbed module.
The advantage of using the oEmbed module is your videos will load significantly faster than the self-hosted method, though you will have less control of how the video is displayed and will not be able to use advanced controls such as autoplay.
Step 1: Adding the oEmbed module
Within your page or project, click Modules at the top of the content editor. Now drag and drop the "oEmbed" module onto your page.
Step 2: Paste in the video URL
Under "oEmbed link" in the editor pop-up, paste the URL of the video you want to embed.
If using Vimeo, it should be similar in format to 'https://vimeo.com/214964290/5c4cc9f3aa', for example. If using YouTube, the format should be similar to 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQnYi3z56RE'.
You can adjust the aspect ratio of your oEmbed video using the "Aspect Ratio" settings. You can use typical aspect ratio values such as 16:3 or 4:3, but you can also use pixel dimensions such as 1920:1080 for example.
Troubleshooting
The video is not displaying, or showing up blank
- Make sure your videos are set to PUBLIC in the video service you are using. Private videos will not appear on your page.
- The video URL format is incorrect. Make sure you are pasting in the actual URL to the video from the video hosting service, and not the embed code.
- Ensure you are using the oEmbed module, and not the self-hosted video module (which is a separate module) that will not accept video streaming service URLs.
- It may be your hosting service is blocking the connection from your video hosting service, in rare cases. If this is the case, you may need to contact your hosting provider to allow connections from the video service you are trying to use.
Video is not cropping correctly or there is black on the sides.
Make sure that you have the correct aspect ratio set in your oEmbed video options. If left blank, the default will be 16:3.
