In Semplice, you have the option to self-host your background video. When video is uploaded through the Wordpress media library, this means your own hosting server is hosting the video and therefore will not load as fast in comparison to using a video hosting service such as Vimeo.
If you wish to improve self-hosted video loadtimes, you can link directly to a .mp4 video file hosted through Dropbox, Google Drive or Amazon S3. Using these kind of services will ensure your background videos load much faster. This guide will explain how you can find a direct video link for use in Semplice with these services.
Getting a direct video link from Dropbox
Log into your Dropbox account, and locate your uploaded video file. Hover over the filename until you see the 'Share' option, and after clicking it look for the 'Create Link' option in the bottom right corner. Once your link has been created, click the 'Copy Link' option.
With your copied link, replace the 'https://www.dropbox.com' in the URL path with 'http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com'.
Your link should look something like this: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/ald13ldjad24la/your_file_name.mp4
Getting a direct video link from Google Drive
In Google Drive, hover over your video file and click the 'Share' option. Once in the Share options area, click 'Get Shareable Options'. Under the 'Anyone with links can view' options change to 'On – Public on the Web' and copy the link.
You can now paste the shareable link into this website to generate a direct download link to your .mp4 video file: https://www.gdirect.link
Getting a direct video link from Amazon S3
To get a direct video link in Amazon S3, upload your new video file. After your video is uploaded, in the settings area of step number 2, under 'Manage Permissions' select 'Grant public read access to this object(s)'.
Once the video is uploaded, you can select the file and from the flyout options panel click 'Copy path'.
Using the direct video link
With your direct video link created from one of the options above, you can now paste in this direct URL link in the 'Video Url' option of the background video settings area of your section.
